In Rome, our students will stay in shared apartment in the historic Trastevere neighborhood, one of the city’s liveliest, vibrant and historically multi-cultural areas. There is a strong international student presence in Trastevere; there are US and Canadian Universities that have academic presence here – including the University of Waterloo, Pratt Institute, John Cabot University and the American University in Rome. In addition, the American Academy in Rome is also located in Trastevere. Apartments at the student residence have three/four bedrooms with one/two bathrooms and all have been recently renovated. They come equipped with a a spacious common area, kitchen facilities (including a refrigerator, oven and washing machine), television and wireless internet. The student residence is located immediately adjacent to a tram line (a 25 minute trip to the Rome Study Center and 10 minutes away from the historic center), and is steps away from restaurants, coffee-bars, grocery stores and the Trastevere open-air market). Because of it’s so-called historical “distance” from Rome (The name “Trastevere” comes from a latin phrase that translates as “Beyond the Tiber”), this neighborhood has retained it’s original qualities and culture.
Students are housed in shared apartments in the southern part of the Şişli district in central Istanbul. Located on the European side of the city, Şişli is a high-energy district that offers a rich blend of residential, commercial, and corporate spaces. Many of Istanbul’s multinational companies are housed in the district, which is also home to sizeable student and expatriate communities. The apartment area is just minutes from an important transportation hub that offers multiple public bus lines into the city. Within walking distance are markets, shops, cafes, coffee-bars and tea-kiosks. This central location offers a convenient home base from which to explore the city for research, academic site visits and leisure. From the shared apartments, students can reach the Istanbul Study Center in just three stops on the metro or a 35-minute walk that includes Istiklal Avenue, Istanbul’s main pedestrian thoroughfare – and one of the most vibrant and dynamic streets in the city.
Each shared apartment has single and/or double bedrooms, a full kitchen, living room, wireless Internet, TV, washing machine, and dryer. Apartments are fully furnished with all linens, towels and kitchen items. Students may also elect to join a state-of-the-art gym located directly across the street from the Study Center.
