Spring 2016: Site Visits and Field Trips

ROMERome TripsIn addition to day-trips  and 1-2 longer trips (see map above – these trips are still be be finalized, some will be optional as well), we will be seeing many of Rome’s most important sites – the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, St. Peters, the Pantheon as well as museums and galleries such as the Capitoline Museum, the Borghese Gallery, the The Balbi Crypts, the Ara Pacis, Zaha Hadid’s MAXXI, MACRO, Palazzo Altemps, Doria Pamphilij, Villa Farnese.  In addition, we will exlore many of Rome’s most spectacular churches – including San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, San Andrea alle Quirinale, Santa Mara in Cosmedin, Santa Maria in Trastevere, San Clemente, San Giovanni in Laterno, the Chiostro de Bramante, Sant Ignazio di Loyola, Santa Maria del Popolo, Sant Ivo alle Sapienza – just to name a few…  In 2015, we traveled to Florence (4 days) and Venice (3 days), in addition to visiting Tivoli, Villa D’Este and Hadrian’s Villa.  We’re thinking up some new options for 2016!
ISTANBULTurkey MapIn Istanbul, we will have almost three months to explore and investigate the city.  In addition to the trips noted above (Bursa and Edirne are day trips and our Cappadocia trip will include visits to Ephesus, Dilek Park and Izmir), we will explore the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman and Modern day fabrics of the city – including visits to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Basilica Cisterns, Hippodrome, Galata Tower, the works of Sinan in Istanbul (the Sehzade, the Suleymaniye, the Rustem Pasa, the Sokollu Mehmet Pasa), as well as modern works such as FOA’s Meydan project in Umraniye, Istanbul Modern, Santral, Kanyon, Salt Gallery, Turkcell, Tuzambari  and the works of many emerging and established Turkish architects. in 2015, we spent a week touring the Cappadocia landscape and the Aegean Coasts, as well as visits to Edirne and Bursa…
